So you say you like WriteNow, it’s a great word processor, you say, fast and totally WYSIWYG. One thing wrong though. You can’t open plain text files directly from it, nor can you save files as plain text, you have to go through this inane translator program. What a hassle.
Enter WriteNow Tools. WriteNow Tools is an FKEY which allows you to save your WriteNow files as plain text files, and load text files in from within WriteNow! Miracle of miracles, we’re all saved!
Here’s how it works:
Install WriteNow Tools with FKEY Mover or FKEY Manager and start up WriteNow.
To save a file as plain text:
Open a document, select part of it, choose Copy from the EDIT menu, select a Desk Accessory (any DA will do) from the Apple menu, and hit Command-Shift-9 (or whatever key you installed WriteNow Tools under) and click on the OK button. Type the name of the file you’d like to save what you copied to the clipboard in, and click on the Save button. Presto, a text file is created which contains the text you copied to the clipboard.
An easy way to save a whole document as a text file is to open your document, choose Select All from the EDIT menu, and then follow the above directions.
To open a plain text file:
Choose New from the FILE menu. Then hit Command-Shift-9 (or whatever key you installed WriteNow Tools under) and click on the “TEXT File to Clipboard” radio button and click on the OK button. Next choose the text file you’d like to open and click on the Open button. Then choose Paste from the EDIT menu and walah! You’re all set.
